Interior Air-Sealing

Interior air sealing focuses on controlling air movement at the interior airtight layer of a building, where continuity and detailing are critical to energy performance, comfort, and moisture safety. In high-performance construction, this layer is often created using interior membranes, tapes, sealants, and accessories designed to form a continuous, durable air barrier across walls, ceilings, and transitions.

Interior air sealing products are used at the interior airtight layer and are not intended to replace exterior weather-resistive barriers.

Interior air sealing products are specified to limit uncontrolled air leakage while allowing assemblies to manage vapor appropriately based on climate and design. When detailed correctly, interior airtightness helps reduce heat loss, prevent condensation risk, and support balanced ventilation systems such as HRVs and ERVs.
